  1. Hi Admin,

I am from India. I want to do engineering in UK or USA. In our school minimum of 7 subjects are required. I have decided physics, chemistry, economics, maths, english as a second language, computer studies, hindi and geography. Are subjects fine? Will they get me into nice college?

    • Hi Sapra,
Your chosen subjects fulfilled all the required core subjects for IGSCE. If you’re looking into engineering courses, we would suggest you to add one Additional Mathematics. The basic of engineering starts from here.

In order to get into nice college, you have to have ‘nice grades’ :)…

  2. Hello,
I am preparing for my IGCSE examination which will be held next year.
The university that I want to go requires SAT scores as well.
Can I sit for SAT with the knowledge from IGCSE syllabus?
Are the standards of SAT and IGCSE equivalent?

    • Hi Julie,
Basically SAT and IGCSE are equivalent. Most of the universities in the US accept IGCSE as well.

We recommend you to at least learn the exam style for SAT before you sit the exam. Especially how is the marking requirement.

  3. I want to become a business man in the future. Do I have to take the business igcse to become one. Or can I just take the subject in college/university?

    • Hi Mohamed,
If you plan to take Business in college/university, it does help if you take Business Studies in IGCSE, but not necessary.

To be a successful businessman, you have to roll your sleeves up and do the work by yourself (a.k.a be responsible and hands on). Always start from the beginning to learn all necessary skills, not jumping the board saying “I want to be a manager” when you’re fresh out of the college.

Knowledge is yours, nobody can take it away from you.

      • Thank you for answering my question! Also my other is that I’m taking 5 igs subjects without any sciences. Do I still get a certificate?

          • Do I need to take a science for igcse if I’m going to study in the USA? Also would sociology count?

          • Hi Mohamed,

You need to take at least one subject from the Science Group. Read here to find out what are the Science Group subjects:
            https://www.igcsecentre.com/what-is-igcse/

Sociology is in the “Humanities and Social Sciences” Group. You can take this subject, but you still need minimum ONE subject from the Science Group.

          • 1) ” The core subjects are First Language, Second Language, Mathematics and Sciences (Physics, Biology, Chemistry)”
So it means that I MUST take at least a Science ? This is compulsory internationally?
            2) I am planning to do Business and/or Finance ,what subjects should I take ?
            Thanks.

          • Hello Kylin,
Yes, you must take one subject from the Science Group. You could consider taking Business Studies, Economics and Accounting.

      • Hi I’m facing the same problem as well I’m thinking about being a pilot in the future so what subjects am I supposed to take? and if i wanna be a show host what subjects shall i also take?

        • Hi Mahytab,
These 2 are completely different field, and you ought to make up your mind when you’re very sure what you want ‘at a later stage’ 🙂

To be at a ‘safe’ side, which means you could go into either one, we suggest you to do science-stream subjects. There are 5 core subjects needed in IGCSE. For science-stream subjects, 1 subject from English Group, 1 subject from Maths Group, 1 subject from Science Group, the other two subjects we recommend you to choose from Science Group or Maths Group, or one from each Group.
