Hello,
Regarding the may/june 2019 ig exams, do you have any idea how the grade boundaries would be like? I was wondering whether it would be lower if the exam was harder compared to the past years.
Thank you
Hello Natalie,
Every year, the exam questions have slight differences on the level of difficulty. In order to provide equivalent A* achieving chance, the threshold is used to determine the grades for that year.
A grade threshold is the minimum number of marks that a candidate needs to obtain a particular grade in a paper or in a subject. These thresholds are decided after each examination has been taken and marked. The aim in each year (or examination series) is to set each threshold in just the right place to ensure that it is no more difficult and no less difficult to obtain that grade than it was in the previous year.
Hello there, I’ve recently done an Islamiyat exam which was last week. There seems to be something bothering me. As you may already know In the exam paper it tells you to answer Questions 1,2 and 2 OTHER questions. But what I did was answer Questions 1,2,3,4 and 5. Do i get penalised for doing that or do i gain more marks on it?
Hi there,
Hello there,
You will not lose marks. However, this has been a waste of your time since no more than what is required can be accepted by the examiner. In such a situation the examiner will usually take the first two answers (Question 3 and 4), the examiner will not select the correct answers from your list.
Do you think that the history IGCSEs are going to have a high level of difficulty this year?
Hi Pareesha,
We cannot speculate that. But for your reference, grade threshold is the minimum number of marks that a candidate needs to obtain a particular grade in a paper or in a subject. These thresholds are decided after each examination has been taken and marked. The aim in each year (or examination series) is to set each threshold in just the right place to ensure that it is no more difficult and no less difficult to obtain that grade than it was in the previous year.
Hi IGCSE,
I just wanted to know if you can advise me on whether there is a specific or perhaps more efficient way of answering questions in History paper 2, without wasting time and at the same time providing a proper answer that’s not rushed.
Hello Joyce,
You have two hours to answer six questions. Try to spend about 10–15 minutes reading through the Background Information, all of the sources and your six questions before you attempt to answer the questions. Make sure you have at least 30 minutes saved to answer Question 6. This will leave you about an hour to complete the other five source questions.
For Questions 1-5, make sure you only answer the questions set and do not waste time just describing details in the sources as this will not gain you any additional marks. Question 6 is a ‘How far…?’ type question. Look through all of the sources and decide which ones support or don’t support the statement in the question (some will do both). You need to use source details to give a balanced explanation and judgement.
All questions will ask you to use details from the sources to explain your answer, so make sure you describe the details or quote from a source as evidence in your answer. Most questions will also ask you to use your own knowledge to explain your answer and to put the sources into context. Make sure you can give relevant facts or examples that relate to the source(s) you are asked to study. Make sure you refer to the source details when answering source questions so you provide evidence for your analysis and evaluations.
Hi IGCSE Centre,
I’m currently giving the M/J 2019 IG exams. I just had a doubt, are grades decided according to percentile or percentage?
Thanks
Hello Yash,
Kindly read this article on the marking and grading process: https://www.igcsecentre.com/guide-to-the-marking-and-grading-process-of-exam-papers/
Furthermore, percentage uniform mark (PUM) corresponds to the grades available (A*, A, B, C etc.) and gives students additional information about their performance. It shows your percentile, not the total mark achieved for the syllabus. It is a point on a common scale for all syllabuses to show whether the candidate’s performance is close to the top, middle or bottom of the grade.
I wonder if I could have my past papers’ answers checked?
Hi Cindy,
You may try our “Mark Your Paper” service in order to know how your papers would be marked. Please check out the details here: https://www.igcsecentre.com/mark-your-papers/
Hi igcse ,
What happened to the pastpapers on your website ???
Hi Reem,
Someone has reported our Google Drive. Thus our Google drive has become redundant. We are not able to share the files, and all the files are no longer be publicly accessible, even to people who have the link.
In a span of a week, we tried to rebuild a new platform where we aim to provide uninterrupted access to our library of resources, and to continue providing help to others. However, even with countless sleepless nights, the platform did not work properly. Many members encountered “Error” message. The new platform cannot handle the demand when the limit is reached. In the end, we believe that it is rather unfair if we continue with our new platform when it does not deliver its promise of uninterrupted access. We’ve refunded all members and made an announcement here on our site.
We are currently working on our library of resources however we do not have a fixed date on when it will be available again. We’ve learned that there is no quick fix for this issue. Kindly subscribe to our newsletter for the announcement.
Dear Team.
Greetings.
Clearly a lot of efforts are being put into getting the resources back up again. Thank you for that. Can we please know by when the students can expect the resources to be available?
Many thanks – Prashant
Hello Prashant,
We are currently working on it. However, we do not have fixed date as to when will it be available. Thank you for your patience.
To the best team ever!
It was very sad to hear about someone reporting all the pastpaper under “pronography”.Being an I***** It was more shameful to hear that this i******e was done by an I*****. Hope your team gets the pastpaper back as soon as possible plz!!
