  1. Please help! I am in South Africa and teaching a South African girl in Year 9, Maths extra lessons. She doing the Cambridge syllabus and is registered with a UK online school. I need to know if year 9 all write external exams at the end of the academic year? I have found 5 specimen papers, labelled 9-1 core, for UK students, am I in the right place? Are these papers of different degrees of difficulty? I must admit that am a bit overwhelmed by the number of papers on the website!! Please point me in the right direction! Thanks

    • Hello Mary,

With regards to external exams, this will depend on the school’s policies. Some schools allow spreading out the IGCSE examinations in different examination series, while some does not.

To assist you better we would like to know the subject name and code of the specimen paper you are looking at.

      Thank you.

    • Hello Crucio,

We do not have a fixed date as to when it will be available. It can be anytime after the results are released.

      Thank you for your understanding.

  2. Dear IGCSE Team

I am struggling to find IGCSE Computer Science paper 11 2020 M/J. I can’t find it anywhere in the IGCSE Computer Science file for 2020. Do you perhaps know where I could find is as I am also struggling to find it online at other sites. They have all of the papers for 2020 M/J except paper 11.

    Yours faithfully
    John

    • Dear John,

      Thank you for writing in.

Unfortunately, we are missing 0478_s20_11 at the moment. We will upload it once we get a hold of it. Please kindly check our page from time to time.

      Thank you for your understanding.

    • Hello there,

Here are some tips for Geography (0460):

      – Read the information given in the stem of the question carefully as well as the questions themselves

-When you are asked to use a written resource you will not be given marks for copying out sections from it. Look at the question you are being asked and try to show your understanding by answering in your own words.

-Try to be as precise as possible as vague statements are unlikely to get you many marks. e.g. ‘A Stevenson Screen is used to get accurate readings’ is far too vague. You need to give details explaining why readings are accurate when a Stevenson Screen is used (the louvres allow a free flow of air, the white surface reflects the sun’s rays, it allows you to take temperatures in the shade etc).

-Make sure you know the differences between global environmental problems which you may have studied. Many people mix up global warming, ozone depletion and acid rain. You must also make sure you do not mix up causes and effects/consequences – you may be asked for one or the other so read the question carefully.

Lastly, practice, practice and practice. Answering past papers help and you can learn from the mark scheme. Download the past papers here: https://www.igcsecentre.com/cambridge-igcse-past-exam-papers/

      We hope this helps.
