Dear igcse centre,
My son is preparing for igcse exams next year. I am a bit confused because some of them said its better for him to take in one sitting all the subjects. but some said can separate them. what are the advantage and disadvantages of taking the exam separately or together. thank you very much
Hi Shima,
If your son is attached to a school, it might not be possible for him to separate the subjects into different session. As school usually will register a certain “fixed” subjects for their students in one examination session. You might need to discuss this matter with his school.
Private candidates would have that flexibility of doing so – divide the subjects into different examination sessions.
Taking the subjects separately would enable you to have better concentration in small amount of subjects in one session. However, if your son is able to cope with more subjects in one session, he is certainly good to go.
I have many questions:
– I would like to register for one subject and perhaps I might not be able to enter the exam due to the travel of my parents at the same time of exam? in this case, what is the kind of certificate I will get? is it considered as a session?
– My parents will travel to Germany? where could I get IGCSE exams there (Germany)?
– If I register in one country, could I have my exam in another country?
Hi Manal,
First of all, we hope you are not mistaken us as CIE, as we are not CIE 🙂
Here are the answers to your questions:
1. If you registered one subject and did not appear for the exam, you will not obtain any grade for that subject. Your result slip might show “Absence” or “No attendance” or similar remarks.
2. You can always register yourself with any local British Council and sit for your exam there. However, we suggest you to first check with the local British Council and find out if the subject that you wish to write is available in that are.
3. No, you can’t write your exam in different exam centre. When you register yourself with an exam centre, you must write your exam with that exam centre.
We are a school that was just attained Cambridge accreditation. I am a Chemistry teacher. What I would like to know is the recommended time period to complete the IGCSE syllabus. Is it possible to start in one year and have students sit for the exams in the same year?
Hi Jackson,
As far as we know, it is not quite possible for a school to do so. As there would be lots of programmes planned in the school, and therefore there is a curriculum plan to fit into that. Perhaps you want to check with your school and get the curriculum plan from CIE since your school has gotten the Cambridge accreditation.
Hi IGCSE Centre,
I live in Egypt and I take 8 subject. I have 2 questions. First of all, in Chemistry & Physics, will I take Paper 2 or Paper 3? My School takes the Core & Extended syllabus, but I am confused. Also, I will sit the CIE exams next May/June 2017 isa. When am I supposed to start studying? Since I am really worried that I won’t be able to finish in time.
Thankyou & Hope to hear from you as soon as possible.

Hi Farah,
If you are taking the “Extended curriculum”, you will take Paper 2 and Paper 4. You will also take Paper 5 since you are being attached to a school. You can always join our revision classes either the next session in August 2016 or in February 2017.
Hi I am Mahir .My school was previously following edexcel but now there giving the option of either choosing edexcel or Cambridge .i am in class 8 can u give me some idea what advantages will I get if I take Cambridge instead of edexcel and I have heard Cambridge students are given more priority than the edexcel ones is it true
Hi Mahir,
We are not sure about the “priority”, but one thing we are sure is, Cambridge IGCSE is accepted worldwide. You would be in good hand by choosing that.
