Hello,
I have been homeschooling my two kids aged 12 & 13, and plan on starting them with the IGCSE curriculum to sit exams in 2018. I have been looking for exam centres in my area (Birmingham, UK) but have not had much success. I am also confused as there are other exam boards – AQA, Edexcel, so not sure whether I look for an exam centre first, and then choose what board to follow. Appreciate any advise.
Hi Chogle,
It has come to our attention that it is hard to find an exam centre for private candidates in the UK. We have suggested British Council to our candidates in the UK, but they seem to have problems as well.
We strongly suggest you to call up CIE directly and ask them which exam centre you should register your kids with. CIE is the exam board, they would know where you could go for exams in the UK.
It is best to stick with IGCSE exams board since you have already started the IGCSE curriculum. AQA and Edexcel will have similar syllabi, the difference is in the exam style.
Hi Ahmed,
You can register with your local British Council, and write your exams as private candidate. Just pay a visit to your local British Council and find out more information.
Hi Mohamed,
If you are sitting the IGCSE exams as private candidate, you can proceed to year 11 and write your exams accordingly.
However, if you wish to enrol into year 11 with a new school, you might not be able to find a school that would take new student in year 11. You have to decide whether to write the exam as private candidate or enrol into year 10 with a school.
I’m 27 years old – Egyptian, can i take the igcse in maths o-level and then A-level only independently , or should i register in a school and take all the subjects ?
can i get a certificate in one subject ,,

Hi Ahmed,
You can always sit for the exams independently. Just register yourself with your local British Council.
