  4. Hi IGCSE team. You guys are great and should be praised for your work. I have a question. I am in Form 3 in Botswana so I will be writing my IGCSE exams next year. However, I feel a bit confident that I can right my maths extended this year by itself but I will write the rest next year. I think I can do my maths one year earlier than intended. I do have a few questions about it:
1.Will I get a separate certificate and if I do:
a). Will it be a good or bad thing for me?
b). Will this separate certificate be allowed in other universities such as Harvard?
2.Is it normal to do this or will be an extra-ordinary achievement if I do it and pass with and A*?

Please reply as soon as possible.
    Thank you.

    • Hi Rehanul,
Thank you for your kind words.
Here are the answers for your questions:
      1. You will obtain one certificate for Mathematics only if you just take one subject.
      2. It would help you in terms of, you can concentrate on one subject only in one examination session.
      3. You will obtain one certificate for each subject in IGCSE. So there is no difference if you sit for all the subjects in one examination series or separately.
      4. Many candidates are separating the subjects into different examination series in order to help them to concentrate in preparing for the exams. It is very normal to do so.

  5. I have a really important question. Next year I will be sitting for my IGCSE exams but I am considering doing my extended maths papers this year instead of next year and I will do the rest of my exams next year. I will basically do my maths one year early. Here are my questions:
1.Will it be an advantage to do this?
2.Will other universities or schools accept this?
3.Will I get a separate certificate if I do it a year early? If yes will this be a hindrance to proceeding to A levels?

Please reply as soon as possible so I can prepare (if I need to).

    Thank you,
    Rehanul

    • Hi Rehanul,
Here are the answers to your questions:
      1. There is no special advantage if you are thinking you would gain “something”. We would say, the advantage is you have one less subject next year. So you would be more relax.

      2. Yes, they would.

      3. You will obtain one certificate for Maths this year, and the rest next year. There is no hindrance.
