  1. I have two questions.

Will the number of subjects I take for IGCSEs have an effect on my chances of getting accepted into university? If I take five subjects, will that decrease my number of opportunities?

Is it necessary to get an A or A* in all subjects or just the ones that are required based on what I want to study? Will colleges look at all my grades?

    • Hi Aisha,
The colleges / universities will look at all required subjects grades as the entry requirement. If you are apply for engineering in Cambridge University, the minimum grades required are: A*A*A, at A-Level.

At IGCSE level, you must scored at least 2 A* in the required subjects for engineering, it could be: Physics, Additional Maths, Chemistry, Maths, etc… depending on which engineering course you’re applying to.

  2. I’m a UK student currently studying 3 A levels. Do you know if GCSEs/iGCSEs allow you to get college credit in the USA? Or is it just A-levels? I have tried to message the colleges I want to apply to in the USA but they don’t seem to have a very good knowledge of the UK system.

    • Hi Katy,
Most of the ivy league colleges and universities do recognise IGCSE. For example Harvard University. You may want to help the college that you wish to apply to on the conversion. First call up CIE and get more information on credit conversion for US. Then you can send this information to your college in the US.

  3. I’m 13 and I want to write the igcse exams next year. I’m confused as to if I can gain university admission or at least A levels if I pass at age 13. And I am also confused in relation to the subject choices, do I have to take 5 compulsory subjects and 2 additional ones or how does it work?

    • Hi Anna,
Yes, you can always get admission to further studies as long as you have gotten the required grades for the required subjects.
Please follow the instruction above to choose your subjects.

    • Hi Vanshika,
IGCSE is widely accepted. If you need a firm confirmation, please call up the colleges or universities in India and get the confirmation.
