Dear IGCSE team
I am Pakistani, Dr. Hemandas working in Nizwa Hospital Oman.
My child had passed class 8th in this April 2017 from Pakistani school Nizwa, Oman and now I want him to do IGSCE home studies as he can?t attended regular schools.
I register my child in Pakistani school Muscat Oman offering IGCSE.
I have read the your article show that the candidate must take 2 subject from group 1 and 4 subjects from rest 4 groups and 7th subject with his or her choice.
The Pakistani school Muscat offering 3 options with following subjects.
Option 3: English, Urdu/Arabic, Maths, Islamiat , Pakistan studies, Accounting, Business Studies and biology. 8 subjects
They are offering subjects 2 subjects from group one but not offering other subjects from rest 4 groups like omitting one group with each option.
I want my son to take science and other necessary allied subjects with them.
I will continue his A level studies in Oman and try for Universities in UK for further studies.
So my quires
1. What subjects and how many (minimum) numbers of subjects I should choice for my son to prepare my son for science group.
2. As I mention, I will continue him here in Oman, is this important to take Urdu (which is only choice) as other subject from group one.
3. Can I take only 5 important subjects for him?? Like English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics. Or it is important to take 7 subjects include Urdu and Pakistan studies (which I will choice if find necessary)
4. Can I take 5 important subjects for science Like English, Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics with ICT and Accounting to complete 7 subjects?
5. As he will study at home, can I my sons appear 2 or 3 subjects in each given examine diet like in October and June respectively?
6. I took syllabus book list from Pakistani school Muscat, having only subject code and ISBN numbers, but list given in British council having 2 books with same code with different options (CY,, GY) and some having 4 options (AY, BY,CY,DY), and each option having different fees for examine , Now I don’t know which option to prepare for examine as the lady in council told me that examine is taken examine only if candidates will be enough to appear in examine for given diet.
7. There are different book is council list with different code but same subject name, please guide me which book to follow for proper examine preparations.
Hello Dr. Hemandas,
We have already answers your questions no. 1 to no. 4 earlier. Now we will continue with your question no. 5 to no. 7 here. 🙂
Here are the answers to your questions:
5. Yes, he may register to sit for the exams in different examination series. Just work with the school / British Council on the exam registration.
6. All of the suggested books would work fine as long as they are endorsed and cover all the required syllabus. You may also check our recommended books here: https://igcsecentre.com/recommended-books/. Reference books are just guides for you, you may want to consider some online courses to help your son as well. Please check out the IGCSE online courses here: https://igcsecentre.com/cambridge-igcse-revision-courses/. And yes, the exam fees vary from schools to schools, and even different from British Council. You can always register your son with the exam centre which is nearest to you and more convenient to you. Please only register your son for the exam when he is ready for that. Do not register now, and “force” him to finish the syllabus. This won’t work. The whole syllabus takes roughly 1-2 years to finish. So you must make good plans for him to follow through and cover all the subjects.
7. All the books work just fine, as long as they covered all the required syllabus. You may also check the recommended books here: https://igcsecentre.com/recommended-books/
Hope these help. If you need more assistance, just feel free to write to us.

I am going to take Business Studies. So which other subjects do I need to take to go with business studies. I am a year 9 student. Coming August, I will attend year 10 and that’s why I am choosing subjects for it.
Hi Ah Phyu,
For Business related courses, normally they would require: English, Maths, Business Studies, Economics, and one of the Science Group. You can always check on the university’s website to find out what are the required subjects as entry requirements.
Hi
My son is in grade 5th but has not scored good marks(27/100).what should i do ?should i continue with IGCSE level?or i change with national board?on this result he will promoted to next grade?
Hello Kavita,
You must first try the national board exam with your son, then assess his confident level in doing the national board exam. Only in this way you could weight whether IGCSE or national board is better for him.

Hello there. Is it true that teachers also take IGCSE exams too? If true, how many stages are involved?
Hi Agboola,
We believe you meant, getting qualified in teaching IGCSE? If yes, you must contact CIE for the teacher’s training programme.
