  2. Hello,

I am 14 years of age and currently studying in Dubai,

I am not planning to study anywhere in the UK. My focus is the US, I am currently taking a couple of IGCSE courses although I am not sure if these will help me get accepted into good universities in the US. I am confused if I should go on and take these courses or just focus mostly on the AP’s as these courses need a lot of focus and time to be successfully completed.

    • Hi Alex,

All universities have their own set of requirements. It’s best to check with your preferred university for their admission requirement.

      Hope this helps.

  3. My son studies in Dubai.

I note minimum is 5 subjects. Can my son take 1. English as Second language, 2. Mathematics,
    3. Accounting, 4.Economics and 5. Business Studies.

    Is Science compulsory ?

    Regards

    • Hi Rajaram,

It depends on what your son planned to study in the future. He must choose his subjects based on what he wants to study in the future. You can check the college’s/university’s website to get an idea of the required subjects.

If your son is taking IGCSE through school and wish to apply for the ICE, he will need two different languages from Group One and one subject from each of the remaining subject groups. The seventh subject can come from any of the five groups.
      ? Group One: Languages
? Group Two: Humanities and Social Sciences
      ? Group Three: Sciences
      ? Group Four: Mathematics
? Group Five: Creative, Technical and Vocational

      • Dear IGCSE Team,

        Many thanks for your reply.

Actually, as I am on the verge of retirement in Dubai, I intend to go back to India and admit my son to the Indian CBSE Commerce Stream which needs only 5 IGCSE subjects including English with C Grades.

As such, will be thankful if you could clarify if my son can take only 5 Subjects i.e.English, Accounting, Economics, Business Studies and Mathematics only for his 11th Grade and if he obtains C or above grades, whether he will be treated as IGCSE qualified and get the Certificate.

He currently studies Double/Coordinated Science as well which is not required for him for his admission to CBSE Commerce Stream. I therefore wish to know whether he can discontinue with the Double/Coordinated Science subject in his 11th Grade.

        Thanking you in advance,

        Rajaram Kalyanpur

        • Hello Rajaram,
If you intend to enrol your son to the CBSE board, he would obtain the CBSE certificates, not IGCSE certificates. The number of subjects is dictated by the school, you must follow the rules in the school. We can’t provide this advice to you, unfortunately. Please discuss with the school on this matter.

      • Dear IGCSE Team,

Many thanks. Actually I am on the verge of retirement in Dubai and will be moving to India next year. I intend to admit my son to the Indian CBSE Commerce Stream which requires only 5 subjects (English + 4 other subjects of IGCSE) with Grade C or above for admission.

Currently my son studies English, Mathematics, Accounting, Economics, Business Studies and Double/Coordinated Science(Double Award).

My question is whether he can drop Double/Coordinated Science as it is not required and still get an IGCSE Certificate by getting C Grade or above?

Secondly, can the School insist he still has to take Double/Coordinated Science compulsorily ?

        Thanking you in advance.
