Hi, my 12 years old son wants to appear for igcse exam for English and maths subjects, he studies in IB school that conducts igcse exams every year, can he appear if the school thinks he is capable enough to undergo the exam.
What’s the procedure and what’s the eligibility?

I am currently 11 years old and I study in yr 7. I am supposed to take a Career Placement Test next year. I took a CAT test a few months ago. My question is, how would those tests help me choose IGCSE subjects? Am I allowed to go for IGCSEs at age 13 as this is going to be my age in yr 9? My country’s official language is Arabic but I speak English just as fluently and perhaps more fluently, should I take English as a First or Second Language? I currently study in Dubai, UAE, would I need to study till yr 13 or is yr 12 ok, I want to finish an equivalent to gr 12.

If you are attached to a school, you must abide to the school’s study term. We do not know about your CAT, therefore, we can’t provide any advice or suggestion.
As for the English language choice, we would suggest you to download both past exam papers here: https://www.igcsecentre.com/cambridge-igcse-past-exam-papers/, and you could try to work on them. In this way you would know which one suits you best.
im in yr11 and i took eng Lang, maths, islamiyat, business, accounting, computer science and sociology. Unfortunately my school doesn?t offer traditional sciences along with social sciences so it was one or the other. Would I still be accepted in UK sixth forms/unis or would I have to give an additional science paper? Also would I still be eligible for receiving a Cambridge ICE?

It all depends on what do you want to study later. If you would like to do science subjects in sixth form/university, then you must take some science subjects that are required as the entry requirement. Please check on the university’s entry requirement in order to make a proper decision.

Otherwise, you may also register your nephew as private candidate and sit for his exams with the nearest British Council.

If you have finished high school, you do not need IGCSE anymore. Just proceed to A Level / diploma / any equivalent studies.
