  1. Hi IGCSE Team

I read in some websites that grades ” x, u ” are considered as fail
so other grades are considered as a pass?
    such like grade G ?

  2. Hi IGCSE Team !

  3. Hello IGCSE Team.

Firstly I would like to thank you for creating this platform in which we can have our questions answered.

My daughter is 15 turning 16 in November. She is ‘home-schooled’ but attends tutoring with a small group. In May/June this year she sat for IGCSE exams in the Maths Core, English First Language and Business Studies (one paper, she missed the second one so has no grading for this subject). She got C for English and F for Maths. She has now registered to resit Business Studies in November. She wanted to do History, Art and Design, isiZulu as a second language. She has however been advised to only write the Business Studies exam in November and write the others in May/June next year.

    My questions are :

    1. Is she allowed to sit IGCSE in three exam sittings or is May/June and October/November of the same year regarded as one sitting?
    2. She really struggles with Maths. At university she wants to study Dramatic Arts. Does she have to resit her Maths as she will not continue with it at AS/A Level. is it compulsory that she does a science subject even though she wants to pursue art?

Your help will be highly appreciated.

    • Hi Thembelihle,
      You are most welcome! 🙂

Here are the answers to your questions:

      1. She can sit for the exams in any session: either May/June or Oct/Nov, in the same year. They are considered different session, even in the same year. Just in Oct/Nov session, she will see the code “resit” for her Business Studies. In May/June session, you won’t see this code.

      2. Maths is one of the core subjects, so she must obtain at least a credit. One Science subject is also a core subject. You can pick any subject from the Science group, please see what are the subjects inside Science group above.

To further help you to decide, you can call up the university that she wants to apply, and ask for what is the minimum grade for the Art course entry requirement. In this way, you will know very well what you need to achieve, and which subject to resit.

      Hope this help.
