  1. Hello,
I had a small concern that i need to deal with quickly. In my school we give 3 subjects, pakistan studies urdu and islamiat in grade 10 while the rest in grade 11. I was wondering if i could give my english paper in october november of this year along with the 3 subjects and the rest in may june of next year so i do not have stress later on. firstly could you give me an advice regarding this and secondly if i do so will it affect my transcript or later admissions

    • Hi Muhammad,

Yes, you are free to spread out your IGCSE examinations. We suggest that you register yourself whenever you are ready for the exam, and if your school permits that. With regards to your second question, it won’t affect your transcript, however it’s best to check with the respective university/college if they accept the result on a certain year.

  2. Hello there. I have strong interest to be a writer but don?t have adequate knowledge in English. I plan to take short course in IGCSE or O Level English and continue taking A Level in English, but is it possible to take only one subject and is there a minimum age requirement to sit for the test? Thank you.

    • Hello Sylvia,

If you plan for further studies, universities usually require a minimum of 5 subjects. We strongly suggest you to check on the university entry requirements for your future studies. On the other hand, there is no minimum age requirement, as long as the candidate is judged to have the ability and confidence to sit the examinations.

  3. Hi there I am from India my niece is not doing so good in English and and someone suggested that O Level English is comparatively easy. So what u suggest should we do. Need your suggestions.

    • Hi Sandeep,

IGCSE set internationally recognised standards while O-level were developed to meet specific local needs. Furthermore, IGCSE uses a variety of assessment techniques to test oral and practical skills, initiative and problem-solving and application of skills, knowledge and understanding. A coursework option is available in many syllabuses, allowing schools an element of personal choice and giving teachers the chance to share in the process of assessment. On the other hand, O-level offers fewer coursework options than IGCSE. The focus of O-level languages is on writing and reading skills and there are more restricted practical test options in O-level sciences.

Choosing between IGCSE or O-level, depends on what she wants to study in the future. We suggest that she check out the universities she have in mind and get the confirmation on their admission requirements.

    • Hi Swapna,

There is no minimum subject required for O Level if you?re a private candidate, and the maximum number of subjects you can take is 14. However, we strongly suggest that if you are planning to pursue further studies that you check with the universities that wish you apply to, and get the confirmation on required subjects in accordance to the course you would like to study in the university.

  4. Hi! I was wondering if the Singapore O?Level Certificate (equivalent to IGCSE and Cambridge GCE O?Level) can be regarded as an equivalence to a US High School Diploma? Thank you 🙂

    • Hi Zoe,

They are all of equivalent qualification. However, if you are planning for further study in US, we suggest that you check the entry requirements with the university you wish to apply to.
